How do I get a burn permit?

In Nevada County, CA, you can obtain a free residential burn permit online by visiting the CAL FIRE Burn Permit website (burnpermit.fire.ca.gov). The process involves watching a mandatory safety video, filling out an application, and printing or saving the permit. Permits are required for debris burning, must be renewed annually after January 1st, and require verifying that it is a permissive burn day.

Steps to Get a Burn Permit in Nevada County:

Apply Online: Visit burnpermit.fire.ca.gov to complete the application.

Submit & Print: Fill in the necessary information, submit the form, and print or save your permit to have in your possession.

When can I burn my leaves, tree trimmings, or dry brush?

Burn Permits are usually required about half the year and not required the other half depending on the WEATHER. To determine if a burn permit is required, check the Northern Sierra Air Quality website at https://www.myairdistrict.com/burn-day-status or call 530-274-7928 to get the burn permit requirement status information.
