Fire Safety Ed

Penn Valley Fire Protection District provides fire safety education to groups of 10 or more.

Fire safety education aims to change behaviors, knowledge, attitudes, and awareness. Programs are often built around core principles, such as the "Five E's" of fire prevention or the "Three A's" for emergency response:

The “Five E’s”

Education: Raising public awareness about hazards, safe practices, and emergency response.

Engineering: Promoting and implementing safety features like smoke alarms, sprinkler systems, and fire-rated building materials.

Enforcement: Ensuring compliance with building and fire safety codes through inspections and regulations.

Economic Incentives: Encouraging risk-reducing measures by offering financial benefits, such as insurance discounts or free safety equipment.

Emergency Response: Developing and coordinating strategies for timely and effective responses to minimize harm.

When a fire occurs, the "Three A's" of response are:

Activate: Call 911 or pull the fire alarm.

Assist: Help others in immediate danger, if safe to do so.

Attempt: Only after the first two steps, and with a clear exit path, attempt to extinguish the fire using a proper extinguisher (remembering the PASS method: Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep).
